What is naproxen sodium and its effects?

I know it is a pain reliever but what does it actually do to you. My friend said he was taking some and it made him feel a little high can it do that to you?....I believe he had to much...so how much does it take to OD as well? He's been useing this stuff for his shoulder but I guess it hurt extra one day so he took more.
