Technology pro's i need you. 10 pnts?

ok i have a big project in which i need to make a video with handheld camera... when i make a video i wanna edit it via windows movie maker...when i click "Import video device" it wont let me.. even when i HOOK up the camaera to windows movie maker...i downloaded video converter it did convert the video but it is SUPER laggy and in the middle of the screen it says "unauthorized converter" and i dont wanna pay for an authorized one...some1 help! me please... 10 pnts. if u help
